The Thai driver will remain at the British team after breaking Mansell's race record. Williams is ninth in the constructors' championship.
Williams has confirmed that Alex Albon will continue with the team for the 2027 season. The Thai driver thus extends his stay at the British team, where he has broken longevity records and has become a leader in the rebuilding project: "Since I joined the team in 2022, the transformation this team has made is difficult to put into words" declared Albon.
The 30 year old driver joined Williams in 2022 after a year as Red Bull's reserve driver, and since then has been a key piece in the Grove team's rebuilding process: "A difficult season doesn't tell the whole story and only gives me more motivation to keep building and pushing together with the factory and our fans to achieve great things" stated Albon.
James Vowles, Williams team principal, highlighted Albon's importance to the project: "I'm delighted that Alex and the team are continuing their extraordinary journey together. Alex has been a leader of this transformation project from day one and we have many unfinished goals that we are determined to achieve" declared Vowles.
The Briton praised his driver's qualities: "Alex is one of the best drivers on the grid and knows better than anyone the enormous improvements we have made in recent years. His renewal demonstrates the confidence we both have in the direction we are taking" he added.
Albon became the driver with the most starts in Williams' history at the Spanish Grand Prix, surpassing Nigel Mansell's record. The Thai driver reached 100 races with the team four rounds later, in Hungary. Albon is currently sixteenth in the drivers' championship with five points.
Williams is ninth in the constructors' championship after a complicated start to the season. The team has suffered with an overweight car and development delays but trusts that the upgrades arriving at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will allow them to take a step forward.
Vowles was optimistic about the future: "Our story hasn't ended yet, so my focus now is on doing everything possible to get us back to the top of the grid" stated Albon.
Albon's continuity is an important step for Williams. The British team has shown it trusts its driver and the long term project. The second half of the season will be key to measuring the team's progress and to see if the car upgrades and Albon's continuity can translate into better results in the constructors' championship.
Williams' trust in Albon is total. The Thai driver has proven to be a leader both on and off the track, and his continuity brings stability to a team that needs time to consolidate its project. His experience and commitment are valuable assets for the British team.
The Grove team has a long term plan, and Albon's renewal is a key piece of that puzzle. With an upgrade package on the way for Baku, Williams hopes to start its comeback in the second half of the season and recover lost ground in the championship.
Williams hopes that the second half of the season will be more positive. The team needs to score points to climb positions in the constructors' championship and prove that the rebuilding project is on the right track.
