Adam Scott fired a bogey-free 66 at Trump National Doral, shaking off a rare penalty and flashing the form that once made him a Blue Monster winner.
Adam Scott made Trump National Doral feel familiar again Saturday, and that’s no small thing on the Blue Monster.
The 45-year-old Australian, the last PGA Tour player to win at Doral before the venue’s long absence from the schedule, surged into the Cadillac Championship conversation with a bogey-free 6-under 66 in the third round. Scott’s clean card included six birdies and pushed him to 3 under for the tournament after a rocky opening two days.
That turnaround mattered because Thursday could’ve wrecked his week. Scott opened with a 76 after a rare mistake on the par-5 eighth, where he hit the wrong ball from the rough and took a two-shot penalty.
Instead of letting it snowball, he steadied himself, followed with a Friday 71 and then delivered one of Saturday’s sharpest rounds.
Scott’s formula was simple: keep the ball in play, avoid the water and trust his ball-striking. At Doral, that’s easier said than done.
The Blue Monster still punishes loose swings, and Scott said the course plays much like it did when he won here in 2016.
That win remains part of his Doral identity. Scott rallied from six shots behind with 13 holes left and closed with a 69 to beat Bubba Watson.
A decade later, he’s not the same player or person. He’s now a father of three, still chasing answers in a game that rarely offers many.

But Saturday looked like vintage Scott. He took advantage of an earlier tee time, calmer conditions and a confident swing before the afternoon wind stiffened.
One round remains, and Scott may still need help to fully re-enter the title chase. But after a penalty, a 76 and plenty of frustration, his 66 reminded everyone why Doral has always fit him.
