Rookie Ben James carries a four-shot lead into Sunday's World Wide Technology Championship finale, but Ryan Gerard and Chris Kirk aren't surrendering the trophy.

Ben James is 18 holes away from his first PGA Tour victory, and the 23-year-old rookie couldn't have asked for a much better position entering Sunday's final round of the 2026 World Wide Technology Championship.

James shot a 6-under 66 Saturday at El Cardonal at Diamante, reaching 21-under 195 and building a four-stroke advantage over Ryan Gerard at the Tiger Woods-designed course.

But with several proven PGA Tour winners lurking, the former University of Virginia standout knows there's still work to finish.

James wasted little time separating himself from the field Saturday, opening with three consecutive birdies after beginning the third round with a one-shot lead.

He closed with another birdie on the par-5 18th, pitching to within 2 feet to finish a round that moved him closer to a career-changing victory.

James has been here before, although the circumstances ended much differently.

In his professional debut at June's RBC Canadian Open, James held the 36-hole lead before a third-round 78 sent him tumbling down the leaderboard.

This time, he's handled the pressure through three rounds.

Gerard, the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 23 in the world, remains James' closest challenger after firing a bogey-free 65 Saturday. His 17-under total leaves him four shots back with one round remaining.

Gerard switched from a mallet putter to a blade during the tournament, a decision that appears to be paying off.

“Just rolled it pretty nicely all day,” Gerard said after Saturday's round.

Chris Kirk and Denny McCarthy share third at 16 under, five strokes behind James. Kirk posted a 65, while McCarthy carded a 67.

Keith Mitchell, Paul Peterson, Kensei Hirata and Mexico's Alvaro Ortiz are another shot back at 15 under.

For James, the stakes extend beyond Sunday's $1.08 million winner's check.

The former Cavaliers star already secured PGA Tour status through his No. 1 finish in the PGA Tour University rankings, but a victory would immediately elevate his standing among golf's emerging stars.

The tournament is the sixth of eight events in the FedEx Cup Fall schedule, with players also fighting for 2027 playing privileges and coveted signature-event exemptions.

James, Gerard and Kirk will play together in Sunday's final group, teeing off at 12:42 p.m. ET.

Golf Channel will televise the final round from 3-6 p.m. Eastern, with streaming available through GolfChannel.com and the Golf Channel app.

The question now is whether James can protect his sizable advantage or whether one of the experienced challengers can make things uncomfortable.

One more strong round, and the PGA Tour will have another first-time champion.
