Jake Knapp headlines the BMW Championship sleeper board, while Ben Griffin, Maverick McNealy and Gary Woodland offer intriguing betting value.
The BMW Championship sleeper picks are loaded with players who have something to chase, and that could make Bellerive Country Club a dangerous place for the favorites.
Jake Knapp stands out as the most intriguing outright long shot at +3800, especially after showing signs that his game is rounding into form at exactly the right time.
Knapp enters the week 35th in the FedExCup standings, meaning he's close enough to Atlanta to dream big but far enough away that playing conservatively isn't going to accomplish much.
That's where things get interesting.
Knapp's power could become a major weapon if Bellerive gets softened by rain. The 32-year-old has continued to hammer the ball despite dealing with a sprained left thumb, and his recent results suggest the injury isn't stopping him anymore.
He closed the 3M Open with a blistering 62 on his way to a T13 and followed that by finishing T7 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
At +3800, you're not betting on safety. You're betting on ceiling, and Knapp has plenty of it.
Ben Griffin is another name worth circling, particularly in the top-five market at +770. Griffin comes into the BMW Championship sitting 38th in FedExCup points and hasn't exactly been lighting up leaderboards lately.
But that's also why the number is attractive. A 50-player, no-cut event creates opportunities for aggressive golfers to get hot without worrying about packing their bags Friday night.
Maverick McNealy could fit that profile even better.
McNealy is priced at +260 for a top-10 finish and arrives 49th in the standings. He essentially has one option: attack.
McNealy owns 11 top-25 finishes this season and remains one of the TOUR's most dangerous players once he gets near scoring territory on reachable par 4s and par 5s.
Then there's Gary Woodland, sitting painfully close to the TOUR Championship cutoff at No. 31. Woodland is +134 for a top 20, and there's more than sentiment behind the play.
He already has five top-20 finishes this season and owns a T6 at Bellerive from the 2018 PGA Championship.
Nico Echavarria may be the sneakiest play of all at +196 for a top 20. The Colombian enters after consecutive T12 finishes and has quietly built the kind of momentum that can become extremely valuable during the FedExCup Playoffs.
The BMW Championship may feature golf's biggest names, but don't be surprised if one of these under-the-radar contenders turns the FedExCup race upside down.
