Cameron Young fired a 63 at Quail Hollow to move within two shots of Alex Fitzpatrick entering the Truist Championship final round.

Cameron Young finally found his Quail Hollow breakthrough, and it came at the perfect time.

After years of frustration at the Truist Championship venue, Young ripped off a 7-under 63 on Saturday in Charlotte to jump into third place at 12-under 201, just two shots behind leader Alex Fitzpatrick.

Young had never finished under par in three previous starts at Quail Hollow, including two Truist appearances and the 2025 PGA Championship.

He entered the week a combined 8-over across 12 competitive rounds here. Now he’s suddenly chasing his third PGA TOUR win of the season and second victory in two weeks.

The shot of the day came at the par-5 seventh, where Young pulled 7-wood from a fairway bunker and hit it to 28 feet before making the eagle putt.

He later poured in a 43-foot birdie from the fringe at No. 16, part of a three-birdie run that shoved him into serious contention. A closing bogey kept him out of Sunday’s final pairing, but not out of the fight.

Young’s week has been powered by more than ball-striking. He leads the field in Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green and ranks 12th in putting, a major shift on greens that have bothered him in the past.

Fitzpatrick, meanwhile, keeps adding to his dream stretch.

Two weeks after winning the Zurich Classic with brother Matt, the former Wake Forest player leads at Quail Hollow and is chasing his first solo PGA TOUR title. He’s one ahead of Kristoffer Reitan, who is also hunting his first TOUR win.

Young and Fitzpatrick know each other well from Wake Forest, and now they’re tied together again on a Sunday stage.

For Young, winning at a course that once owned him would be a loud statement.
