Cole Sherwood officially earns his 2027 PGA Tour card after a breakout Korn Ferry Tour season highlighted by a victory and runner-up finish.
Cole Sherwood won’t have to sweat out the rest of the Korn Ferry Tour Finals wondering where he’ll be playing next season.
The 24-year-old Vanderbilt product officially secured his 2027 PGA Tour card after making the cut at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in Columbus, Ohio, earning the coveted “TourBound” designation.
Sherwood becomes the sixth Korn Ferry Tour player to guarantee PGA Tour status for next season, joining Ross Steelman, Doc Redman, Ian Holt, Alistair Docherty and Alvaro Ortiz.
It’s the payoff from a season in which Sherwood went from promising young professional to one of the Korn Ferry Tour’s most consistent performers.
The biggest breakthrough came in May at the Colonial Life Charity Classic, where Sherwood fired rounds of 68, 66, 64 and 66 to finish 16-under par and beat Zac Blair by one stroke.
The victory was Sherwood’s first on the Korn Ferry Tour and earned him 500 points along with a $180,000 winner’s check.
He didn’t disappear after finally getting into the winner’s circle.
Just over a month later, Sherwood finished second at the Memorial Health Championship, shooting a career-low 62 in the final round and finishing 25-under par.
He has remained firmly inside the top six of the Korn Ferry Tour Points List since his May victory.
That consistency is ultimately what punched his ticket to golf’s biggest stage.
Sherwood’s rise has been quick, but hardly unexpected.
He finished seventh in the 2024 PGA Tour University rankings following four seasons at Vanderbilt, where he won three individual collegiate titles and earned first-team All-America honors in 2022 and second-team recognition in 2024.
His first full Korn Ferry Tour season in 2025 produced a No. 41 finish on the points list, including runner-up and third-place finishes.
That was enough to preserve full status for 2026, and Sherwood took advantage.
Now the Austin, Texas-based golfer gets the promotion he’s been chasing.
Sherwood has already received a small taste of PGA Tour competition, making starts in the 2024 John Deere Classic and Procore Championship. Starting in 2027, those opportunities won’t depend on exemptions.
He’ll have a card.
And after turning a Korn Ferry Tour opportunity into a victory, a runner-up finish and ultimately a PGA Tour promotion, Sherwood has given himself the chance to find out whether his game travels to the next level.
