Eugenio Chacarra wins the DP World India Championship, overtakes Patrick Reed in the Race to Dubai and puts Rory McIlroy on notice with another strong finish in Delhi.
Eugenio Chacarra isn't just winning golf tournaments anymore. He's putting some of the sport's biggest names on notice.
The 26-year-old Spaniard captured the DP World India Championship on Sunday, October 18, finishing at 21-under 267 to claim a two-stroke victory over New Zealand's Daniel Hillier. More importantly, Chacarra leapfrogged Patrick Reed for the top spot in the Race to Dubai standings, setting up a fascinating finish to the DP World Tour season.
And with Rory McIlroy struggling in India, the championship race suddenly has a new favorite.
Chacarra's victory at Delhi Golf Club was his third of 2026 and fourth career DP World Tour title. He entered Sunday facing a demanding schedule after weather delays forced players to complete portions of their third rounds before beginning the final round.
The former Oklahoma State standout responded by finishing his third round with a brilliant 9-under 63, building a five-shot advantage. A final-round 70 completed the victory, although Hillier made things interesting down the stretch.
Hillier finished at 19 under after weekend rounds of 64 and 67. Adrian Meronk and Angel Hidalgo shared third at 15 under.
Meanwhile, the tournament's biggest names couldn't keep pace.
Reed closed with a 69, finishing tied for 23rd at 8 under. McIlroy endured an even rougher Sunday, shooting 74 and settling for a tie for 42nd at 4 under.
McIlroy, chasing a record-tying eighth Race to Dubai championship, acknowledged his disappointing performance.
“Didn't feel I was at my sharpest,” McIlroy said.
For Chacarra, the victory continues an extraordinary stretch that includes June wins at the KLM Open and Italian Open, a third-place finish in France and a runner-up performance at the Spanish Open.
But the Spaniard has ambitions extending beyond the season-long championship.
European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald congratulated Chacarra following Sunday's victory, further fueling speculation that the rising star could represent Europe at Adare Manor in 2027.
“I wanted to be one of the six (automatic) spots,” Chacarra said of his Ryder Cup aspirations.
That's a significant goal for a player who joined LIV Golf directly out of college in 2022 before eventually establishing himself on the DP World Tour.
With three tournaments remaining, Chacarra controls the Race to Dubai standings. Reed remains a serious challenger, while McIlroy will need a strong showing during the lucrative season-ending events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Chacarra heads to next week's Genesis Championship in South Korea looking to extend his advantage.
And right now, nobody on the European circuit is playing better.
