Grant Forrest wins the 2026 Spanish Open with a dramatic final-hole birdie, earning his first Masters invitation and a spot in The Open at St Andrews next year.

Grant Forrest arrived at the Spanish Open searching for answers. Four days later, he's headed to Augusta National.

The 33-year-old Scotsman captured the 2026 Open de España on Sunday with a dramatic birdie on the final hole, finishing at 14-under 270 to secure a one-stroke victory over France's Victor Perez and Spain's Eugenio Chacarra.

The victory delivered considerably more than another DP World Tour trophy.

Forrest earned his first invitation to the 2027 Masters Tournament and secured a place in The Open Championship at St Andrews, turning a disappointing season into something he'll remember forever.

And he did it the hard way.

After missing the cut in eight of his previous nine tournaments, Forrest entered the final round tied for the lead but struggled to maintain his advantage. Two bogeys late on the front nine opened the door for several challengers.

What followed was a wild finish involving five players fighting for the championship.

Forrest responded with three birdies over his final six holes, saving his most important shot for last.

Standing on the reachable, 322-yard par-4 18th, Forrest and Perez were tied for the lead. Both found the rough beyond the putting surface with their tee shots.

Perez chipped to approximately 10 feet but couldn't convert the birdie opportunity.

Forrest played his recovery to just over three feet and calmly buried the winning putt.

"I'm in shock, pure shock," Forrest said afterward. "It's been such a tough year."

His final-round 70 was enough to claim his third DP World Tour victory and first outside Scotland.

Chacarra nearly stole the tournament in front of his home crowd.

Starting Sunday five strokes behind, the Spaniard produced four birdies and an eagle on the front nine. A costly bogey at the 17th ultimately proved decisive, although he recovered with a closing birdie to shoot 66 and finish tied for second.

Denmark's Jacob Skov Olesen also challenged before bogeying the 17th and settling for fourth place after a 71.

But the biggest story belonged to Forrest.

His previous victories came at the 2021 Hero Open and 2025 Nexo Championship, both in Scotland.

Now, the former Amateur Championship runner-up is finally getting an opportunity that narrowly escaped him in 2015.

"It's fairy-tale stuff," Forrest said of his upcoming Masters debut.

He'll also return to The Open for the third time, with the 2027 championship scheduled for the Old Course at St Andrews.

Forrest has spent much of 2026 fighting simply to make weekends.

Now he's preparing for two of golf's biggest stages, thanks to one unforgettable Sunday in Madrid.
