Haeran Ryu defeated Brooke Henderson in a playoff at the Amundi Evian Championship after a wild final round at Evian Resort Golf Club.

Haeran Ryu faced a tough Sunday, but she still left the Amundi Evian Championship with another major trophy.

Ryu beat Brooke Henderson in a playoff after both finished at 19-under 265 at the Evian Resort Golf Club in France.

With this win, Ryu earned her first Evian title, took home $1.365 million, and made a big statement on one of women’s golf’s biggest stages.

Just a day after shooting a major-championship-record 60, Ryu followed it up with an even-par 71. She played nearly the whole final round without a birdie, but finally made one at the par-5 18th to reach 19 under.

That seemed like it would be enough, but it wasn’t.

Henderson started the day seven shots back and made one of the biggest comebacks of the season. She made an eagle at the seventh hole, then hit a hole-in-one at the par-3 eighth, turning the final round upside down.

But the Canadian star kept going.

Henderson needed another eagle at the 18th to force a playoff, and she got it, reaching 19 under. She joined Ryu in the playoff after Aki Iwai missed a birdie that would have made it a three-way tie.

The playoff took place again at the par-5 18th, which players could reach in two shots.

Henderson missed the fairway to the left and had to lay up. Ryu reached the right side of the green in two shots, giving herself a long eagle chance.

Henderson’s third shot landed just off the green, and she couldn’t make the chip for birdie.

Ryu calmly needed just two putts to win.It was an unusual ending to a week that included record scores and a dramatic final round.

Ryu’s 60 on Saturday will be remembered in major-championship history, but her performance on Sunday was even more important.

Jin Hee Im, Miyu Yamashita, and Mao Saigo tied for fourth at 15 under. In total, 62 professionals finished all four rounds after the field was cut from 132 players.

With this win, Ryu also earned 650 Race to the CME Globe points as the LPGA season heads into its final stretch.

Henderson played the round that everyone will remember, but Ryu made the shot that won the trophy.
