Miguel Ángel Jiménez returns to Morocco chasing a rare repeat as PGA TOUR Champions brings a Hall of Fame field to Rabat.

Miguel Ángel Jiménez is back in Morocco with history staring him right in the sunglasses.

The PGA TOUR Champions season heads to Rabat for the 50th Trophy Hassan II, and Royal Golf Dar Es Salam once again becomes the stage for one of the most unique stops on the senior circuit.

The 54-hole event runs Thursday through Saturday on the Red Course, a par-73 layout stretching 7,329 yards.

Jiménez enters as the defending champion after setting the tournament’s PGA TOUR Champions-era 54-hole scoring record at 208 last year.

Now he’s trying to become the first player to repeat in the Champions-era version of the event, and only the third golfer in the tournament’s 50-year history to win in back-to-back years. Payne Stewart did it in 1992-93, and Santiago Luna followed in 2002-03.

That’s elite company. And Jiménez, still one of golf’s coolest characters, has the game and the nerve to join it.

But this field isn’t just ceremonial. It’s stacked with legends. Vijay Singh, Colin Montgomerie, Ernie Els and José María Olazábal bring serious Hall of Fame weight to Morocco. Singh, Montgomerie and Els have all won this event before, giving Trophy Hassan II a throwback feel with real competitive bite.

The purse is $2.5 million, with $400,000 going to the winner, so there’s plenty more than pride on the line.

Royal Golf Dar Es Salam won’t hand out low numbers easily, either. The event’s lowest PGA TOUR Champions 18-hole score is 67, shared by Stephen Ames, Mark Hensby, Steve Pate and Joe Durant. Ames also owns the 36-hole mark at 137.

Golf Channel will carry the action from 9 a.m. to noon each day.

Morocco gets the spotlight again, and Jiménez gets the chase. Now we’ll see if the defending champ can turn style into history.
