Kota Kaneko survived pressure, a weather delay and a wild finish to win the Austrian Alpine Open for his first DP World Tour title.
Kota Kaneko didn’t just win his first DP World Tour title Sunday.
He survived the kind of final-round chaos that can swallow a young player whole.
The 23-year-old Japanese standout captured the 2026 Austrian Alpine Open at Golfclub Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith, finishing at 18 under par to beat Ricardo Gouveia and Davis Bryant by two shots.
For Kaneko, who earned his DP World Tour card after winning last season’s Japan Golf Tour Order of Merit, it was the loudest statement yet that his game travels just fine.
And it wasn’t easy.
Kaneko entered the final round after three straight 65s, but Sunday turned into a street fight. Gouveia pushed early.
Bernd Wiesberger made a run in front of the home crowd. Bryant nearly stole the whole thing late. Even a 71-minute weather delay tried to mess with Kaneko’s rhythm.
After slipping back into a tie with Bryant at 17 under, Kaneko answered at the par-3 16th with the shot of the tournament.
From the rough, he chipped in to retake the lead, flipping the final stretch back in his favor when it looked like the pressure might finally crack him.
Bryant then bogeyed the 18th, giving Kaneko a two-shot cushion. Kaneko still made things interesting, hitting the stands behind the final green before his ball settled near trouble.
But he escaped with par and walked away with the biggest win of his career.
Kaneko has been building toward this. He’s made 10 cuts in 12 DP World Tour starts and arrived in Austria fresh off a tie for second at the Soudal Open.
The unusual swing gets attention, but the results are becoming impossible to dismiss.
Gouveia and Bryant finished tied for second at 16 under. Wiesberger, Gregorio De Leo and Rafa Cabrera Bello were another shot back, while Max Steinlechner, Joost Luiten, Daniel Hillier and Manuel Elvira closed at 14 under.
For Kaneko, this could be the start of something dangerous. He already had consistency. Now he has proof he can close.
