Ludvig Åberg stayed hot at the Valero Texas Open with a second straight 67, moving into contention again just as Masters week comes into view.

Ludvig Åberg is right where he wants to be at the Valero Texas Open: in the fight.

The former Texas Tech star posted a second straight 5-under 67 on Friday and moved to 10-under for the tournament, keeping himself firmly in contention at TPC San Antonio after a shaky final round at THE PLAYERS just a few weeks ago.

That’s the bigger story here for Åberg heading into Masters week. The Texas Open has become another sign that his game is trending back toward winning form. He opened Friday with three birdies on his first nine, added another birdie, then produced one of the shots of the day with a hole-out eagle from 120 yards on the par-4 sixth before giving one back with a bogey on the ninth.

He said the wind made scoring uncomfortable, but felt he managed the conditions well and hit his approach shots better than he did in round one.

Åberg also made it clear he didn’t carry his Sunday disappointment from Sawgrass into San Antonio. He said he took time to reflect on that finish, then left it behind so his full attention could stay on this week.

That mindset has mattered, because he entered the tournament off a T5 at THE PLAYERS and a T3 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and now he’s given himself another realistic chance to chase a title.

There’s also a comfort factor here. Åberg said playing this event before Augusta helps “narrow” the visual demands off the tee, which can make Augusta feel more manageable the following week.

That approach has worked before: he finished solo second at the 2024 Masters and added another top-10 there last year. More than anything, though, Åberg said golf is about putting himself in position to win. Through 36 holes in Texas, he’s done exactly that again.
