Miyu Yamashita fired a Sunday 64, survived Lottie Woad’s late bunker magic and won the Meijer LPGA Classic in a wild playoff at Blythefield.
Miyu Yamashita stole the Meijer LPGA Classic on Sunday, and she did it the hard way.
Five shots back entering the final round at Blythefield Country Club, Yamashita went nuclear with an 8-under 64, the best round of the tournament, then outlasted Lottie Woad in a playoff to grab a dramatic Father’s Day victory.
This wasn’t some quiet backdoor charge. Yamashita came out swinging, making birdie on four of her first five holes and turning the leaderboard into a live wire.
Woad, who began the day one shot behind 36- and 54-hole leader Jing Yan, answered with her own push and looked like she had the tournament in her hands late.
Then the madness hit.
Yamashita blinked first with a three-putt bogey on the par-3 15th, falling behind Woad. But she fought back with a birdie at the 72nd hole to post 17 under and force Woad to finish the job.
For a moment, Woad looked ready to slam the door. On the par-4 17th, she found a greenside bunker and appeared to be in survival mode. Instead, she holed the bunker shot for birdie, a ridiculous swing that gave her a one-shot lead heading to 18.
Then came the twist.
Woad three-putted the final hole, missing the putt that would’ve sealed the win and sending the tournament into a playoff.
Back on the par-5 18th, Yamashita stayed steady, pitching to two feet for birdie. Woad’s chip ran 12 feet past, and when her birdie putt missed, Yamashita had the opening she needed.
The win capped a stunning comeback and gave Yamashita a signature LPGA moment.
Woad settled for second, her fifth top-10 finish of the season. Wei-Ling Hsu and Yan Liu tied for third at 15 under, while Minji Kang and Cassie Porter finished tied for fifth at 14 under.
