
The 45th edition of the Ryder Cup tournament begins Friday, Sept. 26, at the Bethpage State Park Black Course in Farmingdale, New York. The tournament pits some of the best golfers in the United States against their counterparts from Team Europe.
The United States will be led by its captain, Keegan Bradley, who is currently ranked as the 11th best golfer in the world. Bradley will serve as captain only. He has elected not to play in the tournament. This will be the first tournament since 1963 that the United States has not had a playing captain.
Bradley will be assisted by vice captains Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker and Gary Woodland.
The team will be anchored by the six players who were automatic qualifiers. Those six are Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau. They will be joined by Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Cam Young, Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns, who were added as captain's selections.
The success of the players on the United States team in Ryder Cup competition and 2025 season success is as follows:
Scottie Scheffler
Scheffler has participated in two past Ryder Cup tournaments in 2021 and 2023. He has an overall record of 2-2-3. He is 0-2-0 in foursomes, 1-0-2 in four-ball competition, and 1-0-1 in singles competition. He was also a member of the President's Cup team in 2022 and 2024. He won the gold medal in the 2024 Olympic Games.
Scheffler is currently ranked as the world's number one golfer according to the Official World Golf Rankings. So far in 2025, he has six wins and 17 top-10 finishes. The Ridgewood, N.J. native was tied for fourth in the FedEx Cup point standings.
J.J. Spaun
This is Spaun's first Ryder Cup. He has no prior international team competition.
Spaun was the winner of the 2025 U.S. Open. He lost the Players' Championship to Rory McIlroy. He also lost the FedEx St. Jude Championship to Justin Rose. Both losses came in a playoff.
Xander Schauffele
Like Scheffler, Schauffele has played in the past two Ryder Cup tournaments. His overall record is 4-4-0. He is 2-2-0 in foursomes and 1-1-0 in four-ball and singles competition.
Schauffele does not have any wins in 2025, but does have three top-10 finishes. He is currently ranked third in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Russell Henley
Henley has no prior Ryder Cup experience. The 2025 edition at Bethpage will be his first international competition.
Henley won his fifth PGA Tour championship when he claimed victory in March at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He also tied for tenth at the 2025 U.S. Open and the 2025 Open Championship. He is currently ranked as the fourth best golfer in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Harris English
English will be playing in his second Ryder Cup tournament. He last played for the United States in 2021 when he posted a 1-2-0 record overall. He did not participate in foursomes, but went 1-1-0 in four-ball and 0-1-0 in singles play.
English earned his fifth career tour win at the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open. He shot a final-round six-under 65 to record his best career finish, tied for second, at the 2025 PGA Championship. He added a runner-up finish at The Open Championship in July after posting 13-under 271.
Bryson DeChambeau
DeChambeau will be participating in his third Ryder Cup. He previously played for the United States in the 2021 and 2023 tournaments. He has an overall record of 2-3-1. He has yet to win in foursomes as he has an 0-2-0 record. He is 1-0-1 in four-ball and 1-1-0 in singles matches.
DeChambeau had a strong season in 2025 and played very well in the major tournaments. He tied for fifth at the Masters, tied for second at the PGA Championship and tied for 10th at The Open Championship.
Justin Thomas
Thomas will be competing in his fourth Ryder Cup tournament for the United States. He has an overall record of 7-4-2. Thomas was a member of the United States' teams in 2018, 2021 and 2023. His record in fourball is 2-1-2, while he has a 2-3-0 record in four-ball. He is undefeated in singles matches with a perfect 3-0-0 record.
In the 2025 season, Thomas collected one win on the PGA Tour and had three runner-up finishes. He is currently ranked as the fifth best golfer in the world according to the Official World Golf Rankings.
Collin Morikawa
This will be Morikawa's third straight Ryder Cup tournament competition. He has an overall record of 4-3-1. Morikawa, a native of Los Angeles, Calif. also represented the United States in international team competition as a member of the 2022 and 2024 President Cup teams which won championships. He was also a member of the 2017 United States Walker Cup team.
Morikawa had a successful 2025 season. He had a pair of runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour and made a sixth consecutive appearance in the Tour Championship.
Ben Griffin
This will be Griffin's first foray into the Ryder Cup.
Griffin had a wonderful 2025 season which saw him finish with an Official World Golf Ranking of 17th overall. He obtained his first two PGA Tour victories this season. He also tied for eighth at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club. Griffin also tied for 10th at the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.
Cameron Young
The 2025 Ryder Cup will be Young's first competition for his country against Team Europe. He did play on the 2022 President's Cup team. Young also played in the Junior Ryder Cup in 2014.
Young won his first PGA Tour event in 2025 as he won the Wyndham Championship in August. The six-stroke victory capped off a magical performance. He is ranked 20th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Patrick Cantlay
This will be the third Ryder Cup appearance for Cantlay as he previously competed on the 2021 and 2023 squads. He has a commanding 5-2-1 record overall. He was 3-0-1 at Whistling Straits in 2021 where he joined Morikawa as the leading point scorers for the victorious United States team.
Cantlay is currently ranked No. 21 in the world after a solid 2025 playing season. He had four top-five finishes in 2025 and tied for second in the Tour Championship.
Cantlay likes the Black Course at Bethpage as he tied for third in the 2019 PGA Championship when it was played in Farmingdale.
Sam Burns
Burns is making his second consecutive appearance for the United States in Ryder Cup competition. He has an overall record of 1-2-0. He was also a member of the 2022 and 2024 U.S. Presidents Cup Teams.
Burns had a very steady season in 2025. He had six top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour, culminating in a tie for seventh in the Tour Championship, and also featured a tie for seventh in the U.S. Open.
