The organizing committee of the 45th Ryder Cup tournament has rescheduled the opening ceremony for Wednesday at 4 p.m. local time. The ceremony was to take place on Thursday, but weather forecasters are predicting inclement weather for the eve of the tournament.
The pre-show will begin at 3 p.m., and the opening ceremony will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel. For those who have tickets for Thursday, they will be good for both Wednesday and Thursday.
According to the official weather forecaster of the PGA of America, there is a 75 percent chance of rain on Thursday with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon.
The Ryder Cup captains traditionally announce the pairings for the first session of the tournament at the opening ceremony. That tradition will be put on hold this year.
The two captains, Keegan Bradley of the United States and Luke Donald of Team Europe, will be announcing Friday morning's Foursome pairings on Thursday afternoon as originally planned. The announcement will be at 4 p.m. The pairings will be on this site shortly after they are announced.
Announcers and local media are already using the weather as a storyline for this Ryder Cup. Per the official forecast, there is rain predicted for every day of action through the final day on Sunday. In the event that any weather changes force the schedule to be altered, the information will be published on this site.
"Rain will persist overnight into Friday morning with isolated thunderstorms remaining possible. Instability should weaken by Friday afternoon, with showers also diminishing to a scattered coverage" the forecast said. "Forecast confidence remains lower for the weekend, but currently anticipate that a few showers will remain possible Saturday afternoon before becoming isolated for Sunday."
So far, the schedule for the rest of the tournament remains the same as originally scheduled. At 7:10 Friday morning the first foursome will tee off with the four-ball session to follow in the afternoon. The same schedule will take place on Saturday.
Finally, the singles matches are scheduled to commence at 12:02 Sunday afternoon.
