The United States has a big hole to climb out of and they are running out of time to do it.

Trailing 5.5 to 2.5 heading into Saturday morning's foursomes, the United States fell further behind and now trail the European team 8.5 to 3.5 heading into Saturday afternoon's four-ball competition.

Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Young attained the only point for the United States team Saturday morning as they defeated Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Aberg 4&2. The United States lost 3-1 Saturday morning.

“For our country, it was just pedal to the metal,” DeChambeau said after the match to reporters via NBCSports.com. “Cam played unbelievable today. We struck it well, we executed when we needed to and we just put the pressure on them all day. They struggled to get momentum, and when we had our opportunities, we took advantage.”

For Young, he gained a point in two of the victories for the United States.

The remainder of the morning belonged to the Europeans. Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood and Masters' Champion Rory McIlroy kept their slates intact as they won their matches with their respective partners and Europe took their commanding lead into the four-ball competition Saturday afternoon.

Rahm, partnered with Tyrrell Hatton to defeat Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele 3&2.

McIlroy and Fleetwood defeated Harris English and Collin Morikawa by the same score. McIlroy and Fleetwood improved their 2025 Ryder Cup record to 2-0-1. They came within a missed birdie put on 18 by McIlroy on Friday afternoon from running their record to 3-0-0.

“We played phenomenally well for 12 of the holes, and for the next few holes it was like we were always kind of one golf shot away from the match being over. I made a hash of a couple of things,” Fleetwood said via NBC Sports. “I just think where we put ourselves, obviously it made it very difficult for them, they played great toward the end there. Having that buffer there and that lead helped massively, and then Rory hitting that shot on the last, so that was good.”

McIlroy was heckled on the 16th tee and he turned back to hand  it back to the crowd. He said after the match it was all good. He said it was to be expected.

“I don’t mind them having a go at us,” McIlroy said to NBC Sports. “Like that’s to be expected. I mean, that’s what an away Ryder Cup is. Whenever they are still doing it while you are over the ball and trying to hit your shot, that’s the tough thing. You know, look, in between shots, say whatever you want to me. That’s totally fine. But give us the respect to let us hit shots, and give us the same chance that the Americans have, I guess.”

The United States best player, the world's No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler fell to 0-3 during this Ryder Cup as he lost with partner Russell Henley to Robert McIntyre and Viktor Hovland, 1-up. This is reminiscent of the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome where Scheffler went without a victory and was in tears after losing the final match.

Scheffler missed plenty of birdie putts over the last two days that could have secured a point for the United States. He missed putts on Friday and Saturday and Henley could not make up the difference.
