Ross Steelman leads the Albertsons Boise Open at 20-under and can lock up his 2027 PGA TOUR card with a top-10 finish Sunday in Idaho.
Ross Steelman is 18 holes away from changing his career.
The 25-year-old takes the lead into Sunday’s final round of the Albertsons Boise Open, sitting at 20-under and holding a two-shot advantage over Hunter Eichhorn and Travis Trace. But the bigger prize may be what happens beyond the trophy.
A top-10 finish would make Steelman officially TOURBound, guaranteeing him a top-20 finish on the 2026 Korn Ferry Tour Points List and securing PGA TOUR membership for the 2027 season.
That’s the kind of Sunday pressure every Korn Ferry Tour player wants.
Steelman entered the week ranked No. 3 in the points standings, powered by a breakthrough season that already includes one victory and six top-10 finishes in 17 starts.
He’s been in this position before, too.
Sunday will mark Steelman’s third career 54-hole lead or co-lead on the Korn Ferry Tour.
He’s converted one of the previous two, turning a two-shot advantage into a one-shot victory at the 2026 Blue Championship for his first Tour title.
Now he has a chance to make the second one even more meaningful.
Steelman’s climb has been steady rather than sudden. He finished No. 56 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List in 2024, then improved to No. 32 in 2025 to secure full status for this season.
Before turning professional, Steelman starred at Missouri and Georgia Tech. He finished fourth in the 2023 PGA TOUR University rankings and tied for second at the 2023 NCAA Championship.
Boise hasn’t exactly been his favorite stop historically. In three previous appearances, his best finish was T19 in 2024, followed by a T25 last year.
That history won’t matter much if he closes the deal Sunday.
Eichhorn is the biggest immediate threat. He sits two shots back at 18-under and entered the week No. 8 in the points race. A victory would also secure his PGA TOUR card for 2027.
Trace shares second at 18-under and is making a late-season push of his own. Ranked No. 50 in points entering the week, he has now put himself inside the top three through 54 holes for the second time in his last three starts.
Still, the spotlight belongs to Steelman. One solid round could deliver a trophy.
One top-10 finish could deliver a PGA TOUR future.
