Ruoning Yin fired a bogey-free 66 at The Chevron Championship, moving into third as she chases Nelly Korda on Sunday.

Ruoning Yin made her move Saturday at The Chevron Championship, and now she’s back in the major championship mix.

Yin shot a bogey-free 6-under 66 at Memorial Park in Houston, climbing into a share of third place at 10-under entering Sunday’s final round.

Nelly Korda still owns the tournament at 16-under, but Yin’s third-round surge gave her a shot at chasing down the leader in the LPGA’s first major of the year.

The 23-year-old from China started fast with birdies on Nos. 2 and 3, then added another at No. 6 to turn in 33. She kept the card clean on the back nine and made birdies at Nos. 13, 14 and 18, closing with a sharp 8-iron from 140 yards to about five feet.

It was Yin’s lowest round in a major championship and her best major score since the 2023 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, where she won her first major title. She also came painfully close at last year’s Chevron Championship, losing in a five-player playoff won by Mao Saigo.

Yin said the key was simple ... avoid mistakes, stay patient and take birdies when they appear. On a long Memorial Park layout, she leaned on smart targets, improved putting and better wedge play into the par 5s.

Her season has been steady, with four top-25 finishes in eight starts, but she hasn’t won since the 2024 Maybank Championship. That drought could end Sunday, though she’ll need another low round and some help from Korda.

Yin isn’t overcomplicating the chase. She said she’s focused only on effort and attitude. After Saturday’s 66, that mindset has her within striking distance of another major trophy.
