Scottie Scheffler Leads As Travelers Turns Wild

Scottie Scheffler was in control at the Travelers Championship, and then the sky decided to join the leaderboard.

The final round at TPC River Highlands was suspended at 5:57 p.m. ET because of dangerous weather, freezing a dramatic Sunday finish with Scheffler holding a one-shot lead.

Rain hit the course hard just after 5 p.m. ET, and play continued briefly before electricity in the area forced officials to pull players off the course.

Scheffler had been building momentum before the horn.

The world’s most dangerous closer made two birdies over his final four completed holes, including a steady two-putt birdie from 39 feet on the par-5 13th.

That pushed him back in front at a time when the tournament was starting to feel like a sprint through a storm.

But this thing is far from over.

Collin Morikawa already put a monster number in the clubhouse, firing a clean 9-under 61 to finish at 20-under for the week.

His closing birdie on No. 18 was pure theater. In the driving rain, Morikawa blasted an approach out of a fairway bunker to eight feet and buried the putt before signing his card.

That’s the kind of round that can steal a golf tournament while everyone else is still trying to survive it.

Wyndham Clark, fresh off last week’s U.S. Open win, is also still lurking at 19-under through 14 holes.

He’s close enough to make the restart uncomfortable for everyone ahead of him, especially if conditions soften up and turn the finish into a birdie fight.

Viktor Hovland, who began the day in the final pairing with Scheffler, has slipped to 19-under after playing 1-over for his round.

Still, he’s not out of it with holes left and a leaderboard this tight.

The Travelers Championship was already set up for a chaotic finish. Now it has a weather delay, a clubhouse charge, a major champion chasing, and Scheffler trying to close the door.

Whenever play resumes, the final stretch should be electric.
