Scottie Scheffler shot 3-under 68 at the RBC Heritage, staying in contention just days after his runner-up finish to Rory McIlroy at the Masters.

Scottie Scheffler didn’t waste any time getting back into tournament mode.

Just four days after finishing runner-up to Rory McIlroy at the Masters, the world No. 1 opened the RBC Heritage with a 3-under 68 at Harbour Town Golf Links and kept himself firmly in the mix heading into Friday.

That’s an impressive start considering how the round began. Scheffler’s opening tee shot went out of bounds, creating instant trouble, but he limited the damage and never let the round spiral.

“I feel like I did some good stuff out there,” Scheffler said. “Conditions were tough late in the day. Yeah, I did a lot of good things. Would have liked to have had a better start, but outside of that, I felt like I executed pretty well.”

The recovery started immediately. After the wild miss on the first hole, Scheffler salvaged bogey and moved on.

“It was looking like it was going to hit those trees, and I guess it flew right through them and then hit path and went out of bounds,” he said. “Thumbs up for the start. It was a good bogey.”

From there, Scheffler’s short game helped steady the round. He made birdies on Nos. 3, 5, and 6, then added two more after a bogey at the par-3 seventh.

While his driver wasn’t at its sharpest, his ability to score still showed why he remains the standard in men’s golf.

Scheffler also offered strong praise for Harbour Town’s restoration work, saying, “Yeah, I was pleased.” He added, “I think Davis has a great understanding of what makes this golf course amazing,” and noted, “When you have a gem like this,” subtle changes are the right approach.

Fresh off being named one of Time’s 100 most influential people of 2026, Scheffler also reflected on his larger impact.

“Yeah, I’d much rather try to be a positive influence than a negative one,” he said. “If I can be a positive influence on someone’s life, that’s a great thing.”
