Viktor Hovland beat Scottie Scheffler in a Travelers playoff, cashing $3.6 million as the final Signature Event paid out a $20 million purse.
The 2026 Travelers Championship payout turned into a brutal Monday morning money swing at TPC River Highlands, and Viktor Hovland walked away with the biggest bag.
After Hovland and Scottie Scheffler finished 72 holes tied at 21-under, the final Signature Event of the PGA TOUR season spilled into a playoff, where one extra trip up the 18th hole decided a $20 million purse.
Hovland didn’t flinch. Scheffler did.
Hovland poured in his short birdie putt from inside seven feet, then watched as Scheffler’s shocking miss from inside three feet slid away.
Just like that, Hovland had the trophy, the win and the $3.6 million first-place check.
Scheffler still earned $2.16 million for finishing runner-up, but that miss was expensive.
The difference between first and second at the Travelers Championship was $1.44 million, which is a pretty nasty reminder that even the world’s best player can get punched in the wallet by one tiny putt.
For Hovland, this was a statement win in a loaded field. For Scheffler, it was another near-miss in a season filled with them.
Since winning The American Express to open the year, Scheffler has stacked four runner-up finishes and eight top-fives without getting back into the winner’s circle.
Collin Morikawa finished third and banked $1.36 million, while Matt Fitzpatrick grabbed fourth place and $960,000. Wyndham Clark and Akshay Bhatia tied for fifth, each earning $800,000.
Corey Conners, J.J. Spaun and Alex Fitzpatrick were among the next wave of big earners, while Robert MacIntyre and Ben Griffin each landed $540,000 for their top-10 finishes.
The no-cut Signature Event format meant every player in the 72-man field got paid.
The top 11 all cleared at least $500,000, and the top 36 each brought home six figures. Even Sepp Straka, who finished 72nd, collected $36,000.
Other notable payouts included Russell Henley and Sam Burns at $460,000, a large group featuring Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay and Tommy Fleetwood at $380,000, and Xander Schauffele at $48,000 after finishing well down the leaderboard.
But the Travelers belonged to Hovland. One hole, one putt, one monster payday.
