The International Team flipped the Presidents Cup on Friday, sweeping all five Foursomes matches to seize a 7-3 lead over the United States at Medinah.
The 2026 Presidents Cup changed dramatically in a matter of hours Friday.
After trailing 3-2 following Thursday’s Four-ball session, the International Team swept all five Foursomes matches at Medinah Country Club and turned a one-point deficit into a commanding 7-3 lead over the United States.
It was a complete reversal from Day 1 ... and a brutal afternoon for U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker.
The tone was set immediately when Corey Conners and Nick Taylor beat Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns 1-up. Burns had a chance to salvage half a point on the 18th, but his putt caught the edge and stayed out.
From there, the Internationals kept coming.
Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im defeated Russell Henley and Jacob Bridgeman 3 and 2, while Ryan Fox and Min Woo Lee edged Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark 1-up.
Then came another shock.
Justin Thomas entered Friday unbeaten in Presidents Cup Four-ball play, but he and Cameron Young never found any rhythm in alternate shot.
Adam Scott and Christiaan Bezuidenhout beat them 3 and 2, with Thomas posting the worst Strokes Gained: Total number of the session.
The final blow came from the International Team’s hottest pairing.
Tom Kim and Si Woo Kim beat Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele 4 and 3, improving their record together this week to 2-0 and capping a flawless 5-0 session.
“We don’t want to leave the door open,” Tom Kim said earlier in the week, and on Friday the Internationals slammed it shut.
The sweep gives Geoff Ogilvy’s team its first four-point overnight lead in Presidents Cup history and puts the Americans in unfamiliar territory.
The event is far from over.
Eight matches are scheduled Saturday - four Four-ball and four Foursomes - followed by 12 Singles matches Sunday. There are still 20 points available, and the first team to 15.5 wins the Cup.
But Friday changed everything. The United States came in chasing an 11th straight Presidents Cup victory.
Now it’s chasing the Internationals.
