The United States finds itself in a 3-1 hole after the Friday morning foursomes.

Despite having a home-course advantage and thousands of people chanting "USA, USA", the Americans find themselves trailing Europe in the 45th Ryder Cup.

The Europeans won the first three matches before the Americans won the anchor match 2 Up.

"It's not exactly what we wanted," U.S. captain Keegan Bradley said through the PGA Tour. "But we know the Ryder Cup is going to be ebbs and flows, and I've got a lot of faith in our boys."

In the first match, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton of Europe defeated Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas of the United States, 4 and 3.

DeChambeau and Thomas came out of the locker room with the Stars and Stripes wrapped around them and won the first hole. It looked like things were going to go well for the duo. Hatton and Rahm were extremely crafty around the greens and their short games did them justice. They made their birdie putts while the Americans floundered.

Rahm and Hatton went undefeated as a team in 2023 and won their third consecutive match Friday morning. Thomas and DeChambeau, both Ryder Cup veterans, are still looking for their first Ryder Cup point.

In the second match, Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick of Europe outplayed Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley, 5 and 3.

Scheffler and Henley had such a strong performance at the 2024 Presidents Cup, but they could not find the magic again Friday. The American pair would win only two holes in losing the match. The European team of Aberg and Fitzpatrick would win three straight holes to go 3-up through six holes. They made the turn up four.

The third match featured Masters' Champion Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood for Europe. They faced Collin Morikawa and Harris English. This match was never competitive as the Europeans took control from the first hole when they made birdie. After eight holes, McIlroy and Fleetwood were 5-up and the match was essentially over.

The Americans would salvage their one point in the anchor match of the morning as Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay would defeat the European team of Viktor Hovland and Robert McIntyre, 2-up.
