Wyndham Clark and Scottie Scheffler jump from Shinnecock to TPC River Highlands as the Travelers Championship closes the 2026 Signature Event slate.
The Travelers Championship isn’t easing anyone into the week. The final Signature Event of the 2026 PGA TOUR season rolls into TPC River Highlands with Wyndham Clark fresh off a U.S. Open win, Scottie Scheffler still chasing another statement and one of the strongest fields of the summer packed into Connecticut.
Clark is the obvious headliner.
After winning the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, he makes the quick jump from Long Island to Cromwell trying to keep a heater that’s getting hard to ignore.
He’s won two of his last four starts, adding the U.S. Open to his CJ CUP Byron Nelson victory, and he also finished solo third at the Memorial Tournament.
TPC River Highlands has also started to fit Clark’s eye. Two of his three best finishes at the Travelers have come over the last two years, including a T9 in 2024.
He enters the week ranked 11th on TOUR in Strokes Gained: Total, and if the putter stays hot, he’s going to be a problem again.
Scheffler won’t be far behind.
The world No. 1 finished T4 at Shinnecock in his first serious run at completing the career Grand Slam, and now he returns to a course where he’s already done damage.
Scheffler won the Travelers in a playoff in 2024 and has three straight top-six finishes at TPC River Highlands. He also owns eight top-five finishes in 13 starts this season, which is absurd even by his standards.
The field is stacked beyond those two. Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick and Russell Henley - ranked Nos. 3, 4 and 5 in the world - are in.
Eight of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are scheduled to play. Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Sam Burns and Ludvig Åberg give the event a major-lite feel.
Then there’s Keegan Bradley, the defending champion and two-time Travelers winner in the last three years.
Bradley stole last year’s title with a closing birdie while Fleetwood stumbled late, winning by one over Fleetwood and Henley.
Nobody has successfully defended this tournament since 2001-02, so Bradley has history working against him.
The course gives everyone a chance to get wild. TPC River Highlands is a par 70 measuring just 6,844 yards, but short doesn’t mean soft.
The tournament can swing hard around the four-acre lake on Nos. 15-17, and Jim Furyk’s PGA TOUR-record 58 here in 2016 still hangs over the place like a warning label.
Jordan Spieth, Tony Finau and Connecticut native Ben James join as sponsor exemptions.
Spieth won here in 2017, Finau is searching for a summer spark and James arrives with momentum after making cuts at both the RBC Canadian Open and U.S. Open to start his pro career.
With 700 FedExCup points waiting for the winner, the Travelers Championship isn’t just a post-major hangover.
It’s one last Signature Event street fight.
