The Los Angeles Angels had a fun start to the season through mid-April, but the team clearly is missing an edge and haven't been winning games.

The Los Angeles Angels continue to lose games, having lost six straight and eight of its last nine which has dropped the team to the very bottom of the Major League Baseball standings.

At 16-31, the Angels are currently on pace to lose 107 games, a mark that would shatter the previous franchise record of 99 losses set in 2024. This team was fun to watch during the first month of the season, hovering at or around .500 with lots of power on display.

However, the Angels are 5-21 over the last 26 games and own the worst record in MLB by two games. Over the weekend, the Los Angeles Dodgers came to Anaheim for the first edition of the Freeway Series this season and took advantage of a team that is clearly struggling to keep its head above water.

The Dodgers outscored the Halos 31-3 and got payback for last year’s Freeway Series in which the Angels swept the Dodgers 6-0. Angels right-hander Grayson Rodriguez made his Angels debut and first big-league appearance since 2024 in the finale and allowed seven runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out four in 3.2 innings.

Rodriguez was the return from the Baltimore Orioles in the Taylor Ward trade and he had a tough time navigating the Dodgers’ All-Star team, but who doesn’t? Dodgers righty Roki Sasaki tossed seven one-run innings on four hits with eight strikeouts to earn his second win of the year.

It doesn’t seem like there’s an end in sight for Angels fans, but there is still plenty of baseball to be played. Something needs to be done, though, because this team needs a jolt of energy to get back on track.

The Angels stay at home for a three-game series against the Athletics, which are also coming off a 10-1 loss and series defeat. The series opens with a pitching matchup between Athletics right-hander J.T. Ginn and Angels righty Walbert Urena.

Ginn has been great for the A’s, posting a 2-1 record with a 3.12 ERA and 1.20 WHIP through 10 appearances (seven starts, 43.1 innings).

Ginn was excellent his last two times out, pitching eight one-run innings with eight strikeouts against the Philadelphia Phillies and six innings without an earned run against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Urena may be 1-4 this season, but his 3.29 ERA and 1.43 WHIP prove he has gotten the short end of the stick. He has started five of his seven appearances this year and has surrendered more than two runs just once in those starts.

Urena threw five innings and allowed two runs on three hits and one walk with four punchouts against the Cleveland Guardians in his last outing.

First pitch is at 6:38 p.m. PDT on MLB.TV and regional sports networks.
