The Los Angeles Angels missed the playoffs once again. Now, where do they go?
At this rate, nobody knows what the future holds, but missing the postseason again and again is certainly starting to make fans a little anxious and frustrated.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic named 15 teams that could change either their manager or head of baseball operations, and unsurprisingly, the Angels were one of them.
Rosenthal mentioned GM Perry Minasian, manager Ron Washington and interim manager Ray Montgomery as those who could be on the move.
Here's what Rosenthal wrote about those potential changes:
"The first step for Angels owner Arte Moreno is determining whether to bring back Minasian, who is presiding over his fifth straight losing season. The team is in some ways showing progress, and Moreno bears as much if not more responsibility than Minasian for the ongoing malaise. But in Arte World, anything is possible."
Regarding the decision on Ron Washington, it's a bit more complicated and likely hinges on how his health progresses over the next month or two.
"The decision on Washington might be, more than anything, a medical call," Rosenthal wrote. "Washington underwent quadruple bypass heart surgery on June 30. He turns 74 next April. He told reporters he wants to return next season and 'finish what we started,' but how prudent is it for him to even be thinking that way? The Angels have played worse under Montgomery (35-49) than they did under Washington (36-38). Moreno, who chose last time between Washington and Buck Showalter, might prefer a bigger name, be it Albert Pujols, Torii Hunter or someone else."
Rosenthal also sees a path where Arte Moreno brings back Washington or Montgomery and keeps Minasian and waits until things settle in 2027.
Nonetheless, the Angels playoff drought continued, and frustration is growing among the organization and the fanbase, especially after wasting years of Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, two of the game's biggest stars during that time.
The 2027 MLB season is already facing questions of a lockout as owners are expected to make a push for a salary cap, so that could throw a wrench in some things going forward.
At the end of the day, something needs to be done in Anaheim.
