The Angels will hire a new general manager for 2027 after John Mozeliak confirmed he won't remain in the role, adding to a sweeping leadership transition.

The Los Angeles Angels are facing another major leadership change as they prepare for the 2027 season.

John Mozeliak, who took over the team's baseball operations following Perry Minasian's dismissal in June, has confirmed that the Angels will hire a permanent general manager and that he won't fill the position.

According to MLB Trade Rumors, Mozeliak confirmed the decision to Jeff Fletcher of the Southern California News Group.

The search remains in its early stages, with no candidates interviewed yet.

Mozeliak is expected to step aside once his replacement is hired, although he could still help select the new GM.

When asked about his potential involvement, Mozeliak told Sam Blum of The Athletic that a decision had not been made, but he anticipated helping with the process.

The news comes as the Angels prepare for significant organizational changes following the first 100-loss season in franchise history.

On Wednesday, the club also declined Kurt Suzuki's option for 2027, leaving the team searching for both a new manager and a permanent general manager.

Suzuki went 62-100 in his only season leading the Angels, who offered him an opportunity to remain with the organization as a special assistant.

Both decisions come amid the franchise's transition to new ownership.

Stan Kroenke's Kroenke Sports & Entertainment is expected to complete its purchase of the Angels from Arte Moreno in early 2027.

The changes will give the franchise new leadership in both the front office and dugout as it prepares for the ownership transition.

Several possible replacements had already been discussed earlier this month, with potential general manager candidates emerging as Mozeliak's future remained uncertain.

Mozeliak's status had also been among the major questions facing the Angels this offseason.

The GM search had previously been paused while the ownership transition took shape, and Mozeliak had not ruled out staying beyond December, when his current contract expires.

His latest comments resolve one question, although his long-term role with the organization remains uncertain.

The next general manager will inherit a team that has missed the playoffs for 12 consecutive seasons and is coming off its worst season by losses in franchise history.

The new hire will also face important decisions involving the major league roster, player development and the organization's long-term direction.

Mozeliak has already made changes to the Angels' front office, including restructuring their scouting and player development operations.

The next GM will build on those changes while taking responsibility for the franchise's efforts to return to contention.
