Los Angeles Angels centerfielder Mike Trout is now an official All-Star starter as he led all AL starters in votes.

The Los Angeles Angels now officially know what’s been certain for weeks, as Mike Trout was announced as part of the starting lineup for the All-Star game in Philadelphia on July 14.

Trout’s going in in style, too, as he leads the list of starters in All-Star appearances with 12. He’s been the leading vote getter for most of those weeks, and he even passed New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, who’s been on the injured list.

Trout has been as well, but he’s poised to make his return to the Angels lineup after sustaining a hamstring strain that put him on the injured list. The outfielder has been cautious about providing updates related to the All-Star game, but he did talk specifically about returning to the Halos lineup in a piece written by Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.

“I'm not going to give a percentage, but it's looking likely,” Trout said of returning some time next week. “I feel fine. Feel good. I haven't felt anything in like four or five days. I’ve just got to get a couple of 90-95 percent back-to-back days and then be good.”
