Plummeting to the bottom of the league, the LA Angels face a front-office overhaul and coaching uncertainty as John Mozeliak attempts to navigate a dismal record.
The Los Angeles Angels went into the 2026 MLB All-Star break tied for the worst record in the MLB at 38-59.
It sure looks like manager Kurt Suzuki won't see a second season as the manager in Anaheim, and it's hard to say that is a surprise.
The Angels fired their general manager and named John Mozeliak as the interim GM, and there is a scenario where he lands the permanent job and is tasked with trying to turn things around in Southern California.
The Angels have gotten off to a rough 2-8 start in July, and coming out of the break, they face the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals before a more hopeful series against the San Francisco Giants.
After the All-Star Game ended, MLB.com had new power rankings, and the Angels dropped from 29 to 30, putting them once again in dead-last in all of baseball.
"The Angels may finally have a new direction under interim (??) general manager John Mozeliak. This goal is to get this, at last, back on the right track. And for Mike Trout to finish out the season healthy," MLB.com wrote.
Previously, the Colorado Rockies were at No. 30, but they swapped places with the Angels.
There's one giant caveat when it comes to talking about the Angels this season, however.
They weren't expected to be good. The Angels didn't make any big splashes in free agency or the trade market in the offseason. The biggest one was moving Taylor Ward and acquiring pitcher Grayson Rodriguez, unless you think acquiring Vaughn Grissom was the bigger move.
All in all, the Angels came in with low expectations, and pitcher Jose Soriano started the year blistering hot before hitting a bump in the road.
Superstar slugger Mike Trout has returned to his All-Star form, which has at least given Angels fans something to be excited about.
The Angels should be active going into the August 3 trade deadline, although Trout seems tired of being asked about his future, especially with a no-trade clause as part of his contract.
“The thing is, I have a no-trade clause. So, like, it can happen whenever. Ultimately, it comes down to what me and my family want. So I just think it's so hilarious when guys keep asking me," Trout said.
Nonetheless, the Angels are in the mix to finish as the worst team in baseball, and that's not a good thing.
