Angels pitcher Jose Soriano gives up three runs in a surprising outing as the White Sox win their second straight against LA.
Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jose Soriano had looked like one of the best in all of baseball so far this season.
He entered with a 5-0 record and a whopping 0.24 ERA.
However, Soriano went five innings, giving up three runs on six hits with three walks as his ERA climbed to 0.84 and he earned his first loss of the season in a 5-2 defeat against the Chicago White Sox.
It was Soriano's first time giving up a run since April 6 against the Atlanta Braves, when he went eight innings and allowed just one run, and this was only the second time all year where Soriano allowed a run.
The White Sox got started early as Colson Montgomery had a solo home run in the second inning. Jo Adell tied the game with an RBI single in the fourth, but Drew Romo had home runs in the fourth and sixth to give the White Sox a 4-1 lead.
It was also Romo's first home runs of his career.
The White Sox scored another in the seventh, and Josh Lowe had a solo home run in the eighth to make it 5-2.
After Soriano left the game, Brent Suter threw one inning and gave up one run, and Joey Lucchessi went 0.1 innings, allowing a run on two hits in his second outing since returning to the club.
Jose Fermin finished it out with 1.2 innings of hitless baseball in his second straight strong outing.
For the White Sox, Davis Martin got the start and pitched well again. He went 5.2 innings, allowing just one run on seven hits with one walk. His ERA dropped to 1.95 and he earned his fourth win of the season.
The Angels struggles continue as they have now lost five in a row and nine of the last 10 games going back to the series against the San Diego Padres.
While it wasn't a horrible outing, Soriano had been so dominant that him allowing even one run was a surprise, so three was shocking for everybody.
The Angels have a quick turnaround with an early afternoon game (12:10 local time) as they finish the series against the White Sox.
Yusei Kikuchi (0-3, 6.21 ERA) takes the mound for the Angels as Erick Fedde (0-3, 3.42 ERA) toes the rubber for the White Sox.
The Angels then have Thursday off before beginning a series in Anaheim against the New York Mets.
