Angels need an everyday center fielder. Cody Bellinger offers elite defense and offense, while Harrison Bader provides a realistic, strong alternative.

The Los Angeles Angels have been one of the most active teams of the offseason, making several trades and signing several free agents to reshape their roster. Still, there’s the question of how much the needle has been moved for the Angels, who lost 90 games in 2025. There’s plenty of work still to do this offseason if they want to get serious about climbing up the American League West, but there are many ways to do so.

The biggest of which is solidifying the outfield in Angel Stadium. As it stands, the halos don’t have a true center fielder to hold the outfield together. Jo Adell, Jorge Soler, Mike Trout, and new trade acquisition Josh Lowe are all best in the corners of the outfield or not in the outfield at all.

Adding an everyday center fielder is crucial for the Angels if they are serious about making a big improvement from last season. Luckily, there are still several free agent options that the front office can sign to fill the premium position in the outfield. Here are three of those options:

Cody Bellinger

It’s an optimistic pick, but there’s no doubt that Bellinger would solve many problems for the Halos. He’s an elite defender with a Gold Glove already to his name, and he produces a ton of value at the plate as well. He posted a .272/.334/.480 slash line with a 125 OPS+ last season. With the New York Mets seemingly out on Bellinger after trading for Luis Robert Jr., perhaps the Angels could swoop in and use their money saved during Anthony Rendon’s contract restructuring to make one of the offseason’s most surprising moves.

Harrison Bader

Bader is the more realistic option, but he would be a great consolation prize for the Halos. He’s coming off his best season at the plate in his nine-year career, where he finished with a 117 OPS+. Bader would also provide the much-needed defensive help that haunts the Angels’ outfield right now. A much cheaper alternative, the front office should focus on snatching up Bader while the rest of the MLB has its eyes on Bellinger.

Austin Hays

Hays has bobbled above and below the league-average mark for OPS in his last five seasons, but he could serve as under the radar addition to the Angels' outfield this winter. He posted a really solid .266/.315/.453 slash line with a .768 OPS last season. Though he’s primarily played in left field during his career, he has spent some time in center and has held his own. It’s not the ideal candidate, but with the center field free agent market looking thin, the Halos may have to get creative to address their issues at the position.
