Under new ownership, the Halos must revitalize a struggling roster. From elite sluggers to bargain reunions, these three targets could transform Anaheim’s outfield alongside Mike Trout.

This offseason will be a decisive one for the Los Angeles Angels as they look to turn the corner under new owner Stan Kroenke. After the first 100-loss season in franchise history, they have their work cut out for them.

With Kroenke set to take over the club, it’ll be interesting to watch how the Angels navigate this winter’s free agency period. The $4 billion sale of the club is set to become official in the first quarter of next year, which could mean it comes well after most of the meaningful free agent signings are made. During this limbo period, Angels fans are unsure how aggressive the front office will be before the sale is finalized.

Let’s assume that the new ownership, though not official, will have a say in the team’s free agency strategy this winter. One of the biggest areas of need for the club is outfield support alongside superstar Mike Trout. Luckily, this free agency class has plenty of outfielders hitting the market that could fill the holes on either side of Trout. Here are three upcoming free agent names that the Angels should pursue to build a competent outfield in 2027.

Randy Arozarena

Arozarena heads into free agency on the back of his most productive year yet, leading the Seattle Mariners with 5.7 bWAR in 2026. His .865 OPS was almost 50 percent better than league average, and his 113 runs were enough to lead the American League. Earning his second consecutive All-Star nod, Arozarena will be a hot commodity this winter, but perhaps a new owner in Anaheim could be enticing enough for such players after years of being an afterthought.

His arm in the outfield doesn't grade well, limiting him to a left field role, but his bat more than makes up for it. Assuming the Halos keep Wade Meckler around, Meckler could move to right field with his above-average arm strength to make room for Arozarena. It’s an ambitious thought, but anything could be on the table for the Angels this offseason.

Don't forget that one of baseball’s biggest superstars, Tarik Skubal, hinted at the idea that players would be more willing to sign with the Angels now that Arte Moreno is out. Never dream too big, even after a historically poor season.

Taylor Ward

It was a rollercoaster of a year for Ward, who was traded from the Angels to the Baltimore Orioles last offseason before being dealt again at the trade deadline to the Seattle Mariners. Things went downhill in Seattle for Ward, where he posted just a .385 OPS in his 32 games with the club.

That could mean good news for the Halos, however, as they could bring back their former first-round pick on a cheaper deal than many were expecting. There is serious concern about how Ward’s slugging numbers dropped off a cliff in 2026, but perhaps a homecoming could bring back the version that Angels fans fell in love with.

Ian Happ

Happ’s defense would bring a big improvement to the Angels’ outfield, winning four straight Gold Gloves from 2022 to 2025. Though he’s primarily been a left fielder, his average arm strength would be serviceable out in right field if needed.

While defense is where Happ shines, he also has a plus bat to go with it. The 32-year-old has finished with an OPS above league average in each of his 10 major league seasons, including a .738 OPS in 2026. His numbers did take a slight dip this season, but he still finished the year with 2.9 bWAR. That would’ve made him the third-most valuable Angel this past season, making clear just how big of an upgrade Happ would provide in the outfield.
