The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced their roster for the NLCS against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Manager Torey Lovullo opted to go with 13 pitchers and 13 batters for the best-of-seven series, which gets underway Monday night in Philadelphia. The group of catchers and outfielders is the same one the Diamondbacks had in their NLDS sweep over the Los Angeles Dodgers, but there have been some changes made to the infield and pitching staff.
Jace Peterson has been left off the NLCS roster, giving the Diamondbacks just seven infielders to work with rather than the eight they had last round. The veteran utility man got just one at-bat against the Dodgers, and he has never recorded a hit in his playoff career.
Arizona went with an additional pitcher in Peterson's place. Rookie Slade Cecconi, who has yet to take the mound in the postseason, got the nod over fellow rookie Bryce Jarvis.
Cecconi had a 4.33 ERA in 27.0 regular season innings, compared to Jarvis' 3.04 ERA across 23.2. Taking out his one dud against the 101-win Baltimore Orioles on Sept. 2, though, Cecconi's ERA dips down to 2.66.
The full roster is as follows:
First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 8:07 p.m. ET on Monday. Zac Gallen will get the start for the Diamondbacks, while Zack Wheeler will take the mound for the Phillies.
Merrill Kelly and Aaron Nola are the expected Game 2 starters.
