The Astros just finished a four-game series against the Texas Rangers and took three of four. Things seem to be turning around for the Astros, and this series specifically was a memorable one. The Astros are now 6 wins in their last 7 games, and the momentum they've been chasing after is finally there.
Here is a look at the series breakdown:
Game 1: The Historic No-Hitter
This was a huge game in more ways than one for the Astros. On May 25 they won 9-0. Tatsuya Imai, Steven Okert, and Alimber Santa combined for the 18th no-hitter in Astros history and the first no-hitter in MLB since 2024. Imai has been struggling all season. This was his second outing since seeing some time on the IL and his first appearance was rough. This was the comeback Imai needed and he also made history. For Santa this was his MLB debut. It doesn't get much better than that for a debut. He is only the second pitcher in history to pitch in a no-hitter on debut, joining Charles "Bumpus" Jones, who did it first on October 15, 1892 for the Cincinnati Reds against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Game 2: The Rough Night
May 26, Astros lose 10-7. Jason Alexander had a brutal first inning, giving up 8 runs. The Astros couldn't recover from the early deficit. The one blemish of an otherwise outstanding series.
Game 3: Yordan Alvarez Makes History
May 27, Astros win 4-3. Alvarez continues to do what he's been doing all season, launching homers. He hit two home runs for the second consecutive game, reaching 20 on the season. He set the visiting home run record at Globe Life Field with 17 career home runs in 33 games and became the fifth player in Astros history to hit multiple home runs in two consecutive games.
Game 4: Arrighetti Closes It Out
May 28, Astros win 5-1. Spencer Arrighetti did what he has been doing all season, securing wins. He was the perfect pitcher to close out a historic series. Peña and Paredes homered in the first inning to set the tone and Arrighetti improved to 7-1 with a 1.34 ERA. He threw six dominant innings and allowed only one run. Cam Smith robbed Brandon Nimmo of a home run with a leaping catch over the right field wall.
The Astros took three of four and the talent that was always there is finally starting to show up.
