The Houston Astros played a doubleheader after Wednesday’s game was postponed due to weather.
In Game 1, the Astros took a brutal 10-3 loss, but in Game 2, they answered right back.
By the fourth inning, the Astros had already reached double digits in runs, while the Orioles were still trying to get on the board.
The Astros looked locked in at the plate, delivering hit after hit and making up for earlier in the day. After struggling to generate enough offense in Game 1, Houston came out aggressive in Game 2.
Yordan Alvarez hit his 12th home run of the season, smashing one right up center field, now tied with Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees and Munetaka Murakami of the Chicago White Sox. Alvarez’s power surge continues to be one of the biggest bright spots in Houston’s lineup early this season.
Christian Walker also continued his productive stretch, driving in his 24th run of the year. Yainer Diaz added an RBI hit of his own as the Astros kept the pressure on throughout the game.
With an early lead in hand, Houston’s pitching staff was able to work more comfortably after being heavily taxed in the opener.
The Astros’ offense powered them to an 11-5 win in Game 2, helping them avoid a sweep and split the doubleheader in Baltimore.
More importantly, they left Baltimore with momentum after a rough start to the day and a reminder of how dangerous their offense can be when it gets rolling early.
