The winning streak continues for the Houston Astros. Although the first game of the series didn't look like it was going to go in the Astros' favor, they were able to make a serious comeback, defeating the White Sox 9-5, per ESPN.
Spencer Arrighetti was looking to get back to his old self. While his last outing against the Orioles was solid, the momentum still needs to build. Friday night was not Arrighetti's night. He gave up three runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Colson Montgomery and a single from Braden Montgomery, and left the game with right foot nerve irritation after just one inning.
By the time the second inning came around, AJ Blubaugh was on the mound. He threw two scoreless innings and kept the Astros in the game.
Teng came in the fourth and fifth innings but ran into trouble in the fifth. A wild pitch and a Meidroth double made it 5-0 heading into the sixth.
Spence had his first major league hit on the road and Isaac Paredes was hit by a pitch as part of the sixth inning rally.
It wasn't until the top of the sixth that the Astros made it on the board. Down 5-0, they erupted for eight runs. Alvarez singled, Paredes was hit by a pitch, and Altuve reached on a base hit to load the bases. LaMonte Wade singled for the Astros' first run. Then Bryan Hudson relieved Martin and allowed Christian Walker's bases-clearing double to cut the deficit to one.
Lucas Spence struck out but Cam Smith followed with a two-run homer, his 13th of the season, to give the Astros the lead at 6-5. Jose Altuve chopped one up driving in another run. Vazquez stepped up and pulled through with an RBI double.
The Astros kept pouring it on to make it 9-5.
Once again Josh Hader stepped in to close the door on the White Sox. A great way to kick off a road trip for the Astros. Down by 5 but secured the win, making it a four game winning streak.
The Astros improve to 51-54 with the win, their fourth straight. The comeback from five runs down is exactly the kind of resilience this team has shown all season. The winning streak is alive and well.
