Royce Lewis and Victor Caratini hit back to back homers in the fourth inning off Peter Lambert. Then Josh Bell added a two-run homer in the sixth to make it 4-1. Kody Clemens drove in another run with a groundout in the seventh to make it 5-1, per ESPN.
Zebby Matthews Was Excellent
He limited the Astros to one run and four hits over seven innings. He struck out seven and walked just one. This was the best outing of his season according to Twins Daily's beat coverage.
The Astros Rally
Travis Adams retired the first five batters he faced in relief before Taylor Trammell hit a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth to cut it to 5-3. Cam Smith followed with a solo homer off Yoendrys Gomez to make it 5-4, his second homer of the game. Gomez retired Joey Loperfido on a grounder to end it and secure his ninth save, per ESPN.
Lambert's Outing
Lambert allowed four runs and five hits over 5 2/3 innings, falling to 6-5 on the season. A step back after a strong recent stretch that included four straight wins.
One thing to watch going forward, Jeremy Peña sat out Monday with left leg discomfort.
For Tuesday night's game, Mike Burrows faces Joe Ryan in game two of the series, a crucial win if the Astros want to keep their series winning streak.
