The season hasn’t even started yet, and the Astros are already talking about injuries. Last year, injuries led to their demise, and the hope is to start the season strong and healthy. But a few players are already under injury watch.

There is talk that Josh Hader might not be ready for the season opener. He has yet to throw from the mound and still doesn’t look 100%, so the Astros will need to prepare other relievers in case he is unavailable for the opener. Last year, he had a shoulder injury that kept him off the field for several games, and now he is dealing with biceps inflammation.

Enyel De Los Santos’ spring training was interrupted by a right knee strain, but he is progressing and is scheduled for a bullpen session tomorrow, Wednesday, March 4.

Nate Pearson, signed in October, has had to slow his progress, and there is now doubt about whether he will be ready for Opening Day. He had an elbow cleanup procedure during the offseason, and after a bullpen session, he experienced soreness after throwing sliders. He is playing catch, but it is unknown when he will be able to return to the mound. Pearson has pitched almost exclusively in relief in the major leagues but entered camp as a candidate to stretch out as a starter.

The Astros kick off the season on March 26 at Daikin Park. Staying healthy will be key for the Astros as they open the season.
