As the Houston Astros injury list continues to grow early in the season, the team will look to younger players and Triple-A to fill the gaps. It is not just the pitching staff that is suffering from these injuries.

Jake Meyers, the center fielder, left mid-at-bat with back discomfort on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies, forcing roster moves as the Astros gear up for their series against the Seattle Mariners.

Taylor Trammell, who was optioned to Triple-A after not making the Opening Day roster out of Spring Training, is expected to be called up to fill the gap in the outfield for the first game of the series Friday, April 10, a move that would require a 40-man roster adjustment to place him on the active roster.

He and the Astros agreed to a split contract in arbitration during the offseason, which included an invitation to Major League Spring Training. He ultimately opened the year in Sugar Land and was later scratched from Wednesday’s game.

Trammell has spent time across multiple organizations, including the Mariners, Dodgers, Yankees, and Astros.

He has dealt with injuries throughout recent seasons, including a calf strain that delayed his 2025 debut and a cervical muscle strain that sidelined him later in the year.

Despite that, he has shown some production in Triple-A this season, hitting .226 with strong on-base and slugging numbers in limited games for Sugar Land, per MLB.

With injuries stacking up, Houston continues to shuffle both its lineup and rotation early in the season.
