It is official: Isaac Paredes will be back in an Astros jersey for at least one more season. Paredes and Houston agreed on a one-year contract for $9.35 million, avoiding a salary arbitration hearing.
Paredes had originally requested $9.95 million and was offered $8.75 million when figures were exchanged last month, but they agreed to meet in the middle.
The deal also includes a $13.35 million team option for 2027, which would convert to a mutual option if Paredes finishes among the top 10 in MVP voting this year. Paredes can also earn a $50,000 bonus in each year for making the All-Star team.
Now Paredes can turn 27 on Feb. 18, knowing a deal has been made and confirmed.
The All-Star infielder hit a career-high .258 with 20 home runs and 53 RBIs in 102 games, earning his second All-Star selection. He did miss some time last season due to a hamstring injury but returned before the end of the season, though he was limited to designated hitter.
While the lineup may be in flux, keeping Paredes around is a strong move for the Astros. He is a versatile, young, elite athlete.
Here is a look at his career stats, per MLB:
2025 Regular Season
AB: 378, R: 53, H: 96, HR: 20, RBI: 53, SB: 0, AVG: .254, OBP: .352, OPS: .810
Career Regular Season
AB: 1,915, R: 250, H: 453, HR: 92, RBI: 287, SB: 2, AVG: .237, OBP: .337, OPS: .766
A six-year major league veteran, Paredes is a versatile player, but where does he fit into the mix? He primarily plays third base but can also fill in at first and second. With José Altuve at second, Carlos Correa at third, Christian Walker at first, and Yordan Álvarez as designated hitter, it remains to be seen where Paredes will slot in for 2026.
While trade rumors have swirled around Walker, he is currently slated to stay with the Astros. If Walker were traded, Paredes would likely shift to first base. There is also always a chance of injury, and Paredes’ ability to step in for Altuve, Correa, Walker, or Álvarez makes him an invaluable, flexible option.
Paredes is eligible for arbitration next winter and for free agency after the 2027 World Series. With his versatility and proven production, Paredes remains a key piece of the Astros’ infield going into 2026.
