The Astros' season has had plenty of ups and downs, but Yordan Alvarez has been the one constant, and the numbers are starting to back that up in a major way.
The slugger has had quite the season, and it's only early July. Despite the Astros having a rocky start and another injury-plagued season, Yordan Alvarez continued to be a bright spot and a driving force of the offense.
From the beginning of the season he has been crushing homers, either leading the league or at the very least right behind the leader.
On July 4 he crushed two homers helping secure the win, earning him his 29th of the season. He currently sits right behind Kyle Schwarber who has 30.
Right before the Fourth of July game, Manager Joe Espada held a team meeting and announced that Yordan would be the starting designated hitter for the American League in this year's All-Star game.
His 2026 numbers speak for themselves. He is batting .320 with 29 home runs, 67 RBI, and a 1.066 OPS, leading the AL in virtually every offensive category, per MLB. His 29 home runs through early July are among the best marks in franchise history at this point in the season.
This is not the first time Alvarez has put himself in the franchise record books. He already holds the record for fastest Astro to reach 150 career home runs, and he has tied Bagwell for the most three-homer games in team history. He is putting together one of the best individual seasons an Astro has ever had, and he is doing it during a stretch where the team has needed every bit of it.
The second half of the season starts now, and if the first half is any indication, Yordan Alvarez is just getting started.
