The Astros took on the Miami Marlins yesterday and walked away with a 5–4 win. Here’s a look at the lineup for Saturday, March 7:
Jason Alexander RHP
Zach Cole (L) LF
Isaac Paredes (R) 2B
Christian Walker (R) 1B
Joey Loperfido (L) RF
Jake Meyers (R) CF
Taylor Trammell (L) DH
Jack Winkler (R) 3B
Carlos Pérez (R) C
Nick Allen (R) SS
Some of these players are stepping on the field to compete for a rotation spot, while others, like Christian Walker, are set to start on Opening Day.
Here are some of the most notable plays and standout performers from the game:
Walker Janek, the 23-year-old catching prospect, hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, giving the Astros their first lead of the game. It was a standout moment for Houston’s No. 5 prospect. If he keeps it up, he has a bright future ahead, and it could come sooner rather than later.
Isaac Paredes, who is part of the crowded infield situation, spent some time playing second base. Paredes got ahold of a ground ball and whipped it to home plate, where Carlos Pérez tagged the runner for an out. It was just one example of Paredes being a quick-reacting and reliable defender.
For the winning run of the game, Collin Price was up to bat, and as the outfielder searched for the ball, it fell right in front of him, allowing the Astros to score. Another run came from Price’s RBI single, and the Astros held on for the 5–4 victory.
