Cam Smith's ninth-inning solo shot completed the trifecta and gave the Astros a series win over Philadelphia heading into a big test against Tampa Bay.
The Houston Astros wrapped up their series against the Phillies with a victory, securing a series win, taking two out of three, after taking the series finale 2-1. The Astros have now won four out of their last five series, and some of those victories against serious opponents like the Yankees, and the Phillies.
Here is a look at what went down in Philly Thursday afternoon:
Cristian Javier took the mound for the Astros, and the last time he stepped on the hill in Philly was when he pitched a combined no hitter in the 2022 World Series. He pitched the first six innings of that combined no-hitter.
Christian Walker got things going with a base hit off a broken bat for a base hit. After Cam Smith struck out, Taylor Trammell stepped up with a base hit that brought Walker home to put the Astros on the board 1-0. Javier continued to do his job in Philly like he had in the past.
Javier didn't give up a single hit until the fifth. After a few base hits the Phillies scored the only run they would end up with in the series finale. A solid outing for Javier, especially after the challenges Javier has had since returning from the IL.
Wheeler was not making things easy for Houston, and only gave up that one run. Cam Smith was able to grab a home run off of Duran in the ninth for the "trifecta," Smith has a home run for the series opener, the second game, and a go ahead home run in the series finale. An awesome moment fo the young player, and ended up bringing the winning run of the game/series.
The Astros are now heading into their series against the Tampa Bay Rays on a high note, and a much needed one at that. Tampa Bay is leading the American League and has the third-best record across all of Major League Baseball, sitting at 87-59. The Houston Astros, on the other hand, have taken two of their last three games against teams like the Yankees and Phillies, but enter this series at 75-72.
This will be one of the most challenging match ups of the season, and with the Texas Rangers just 3 games back, everyone win and loss matters right now.
