Rumor has it Mitch Keller could be traded to the Astros. While there is no confirmation of the trade, there is speculation that the Astros are interested in the Pittsburgh Pirates' starting pitcher. What is Keller's background, and what could he bring to the Houston Astros? A memorable fastball and reliability are great ways to strengthen a team.

Keller made his MLB debut in 2019 with the Pirates and was an All-Star in 2023. On February 22, 2024, Keller signed a five-year, $77 million contract extension with the Pittsburgh Pirates, committing to the team through 2028.

The 6’3” starting pitcher developed a reputation for his consistent fastball and curveball, as well as a high strikeout rate.

    2025 Stats: W-L: 6-15, ERA: 4.19, IP: 176.1, SO: 150, WHIP: 1.26

While his W-L record is not great, wins depend on the team; a pitcher cannot win a game on his own. His earned run average (ERA) is just above average — not particularly eye-catching, but it shows he can limit runs to some extent. His innings pitched (IP) are solid, which is essential for consistency throughout the entire season and shows his reliability. Additionally, his walks and hits per inning pitched (WHIP) show that he doesn't allow that many baserunners per MLB

Overall, he had a solid 2025 season as a mid-rotation starter. While he might not be the key to the Astros winning the 2026 World Series, he brings reliability and consistency, which adds value by strengthening the Houston Astros' rotation.
