Houston Astros: Injury Updates Heading Into 2026 cover image

The Houston Astros are slowly shaping their roster and preparing for the 2026 season. During the offseason, fans will have plenty to keep an eye on, including player injuries, trade rumors, and front office changes.

During the 2025 season, the Astros had a total of 26 players on the injured list. Some of their stars were among them, so how are they healing, and who should be back and healthy for the 2026 season? Looking at key players like Yordan Álvarez, Josh Hader, and Spencer Arrighetti, all are expected to be ready for Spring Training.

Their return will give Houston a boost in confidence, especially in bullpen depth and the lineup. Isaac Paredes, however, is not guaranteed to be ready, which could significantly impact the team's infield plans.

With Paredes’ status uncertain, trade rumors about Brendan Donovan are swirling. The versatile infielder/outfielder could be the solution Houston needs. José Altuve, the starting second baseman and one of the best at his position in the league, has Mauricio Dubón as the next option when Altuve is unavailable. Trade options are also being explored as the team looks to strengthen key areas before the season begins.

However, Donovan carries some risk due to a left groin strain that caused him to miss time in 2025, and he was placed on the 10-day IL. There’s also a chance he could be arbitration-eligible soon, which may raise his cost.

With injuries, potential trades, and staff continuity all in play, the Astros appear to be setting themselves up for a competitive season. Once the roster is set and players refine their skills and adjust to coaching changes during Spring Training, the Astros have the potential to contend in 2026.
