The wait is over. Opening Day has finally arrived. Today, the Houston Astros kick off their 2026 season against the Los Angeles Angels at Daikin Park at 3:10 pm, beginning a seven-day homestand.
Houston opens the year with a four-game series against the Angels from March 26 to 29, followed by a three-game set against the Boston Red Sox from March 30 to April 1.
After a long offseason full of shake-ups, including coaching staff changes, free-agent departures, and roster adjustments, today offers the first glimpse of how the Astros have navigated these challenges and what they are bringing to the field this season.
Following a 2025 campaign that ended earlier than usual, Houston has zero interest in missing the playoffs two years in a row. Today is the day to hit the ground running and start the season strong.

Key Players to Watch
Hunter Brown, the Opening Day starter, will make the first such start of his career. He has steadily developed into one of the Astros’ most promising young arms. The 6’2”, 27-year-old right-handed starter made his major league debut on September 5, 2022, and has grown into a reliable force in the rotation.
Bryan Abreu, 28, is expected to handle closing duties until Hader returns. He has become one of Houston’s most dependable late-inning relievers, using his high-velocity fastball and sharp breaking pitches to generate strikeouts in key moments. His ability to handle pressure makes him a natural choice for the role.
Jose Altuve, starting at second base, enters his 16th year in the majors. Since his debut on July 20, 2011, the now 35-year-old has been a cornerstone of the Astros’ lineup and is widely regarded as one of the franchise’s all-time great players.
As the Astros take the field today, all eyes will be on how this mix of veteran leadership and emerging talent comes together. With Opening Day officially here, the team has a clean slate and a chance to set the tone for the season.
