Spring Training is in full swing, and the regular season is just around the corner. Young Astros are making their mark, showcasing talent, athleticism, and flashes of the future. Here’s a look at a few top players generating buzz this spring.

Ryan Weiss

Ryan Weiss is shaping up to be a strong candidate for a starting position. His most recent performance came in an 8-2 win over the New York Mets. Weiss delivered a solid performance.

Weiss is showing command, consistency, limiting baserunners and keeping hitters off balance. His performance is making a strong case for a spot in the rotation or as a key long-relief option early in the season.

Xavier Neyens

Neyens has been turning heads with the quality of his contact and the power in his swing. At just 19 years old, he was selected 21st overall in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft and is the Astros’ top power-hitting prospect and No. 2 overall prospect in the system. He still has some work to do timing his bat perfectly, but at only 19, he is already generating buzz.

Taylor Trammell

Taylor Trammell, another young player competing for a roster spot. During the 2025 season, Trammell had 135 plate appearances with Houston, posting a 75 OPS+, 25 percent below the league-average. Trammell is making serious improvement, posting a .917 OPS in Grapefruit League games.

This spring, he has made a big leap, raising his zone contact rate to 85.4 percent, slightly above the league average. He has also reduced his strikeouts this spring, per MLB. Trammell’s strong spring puts him firmly in contention for a major league roster spot.
