Walker Janek: A Prospect to Watch cover image

Walker Janek, a catcher for the Asheville Tourists (High‑A affiliate of the Houston Astros), is gaining momentum and attention from his 2025 performance. Could he be called up to the majors in 2026?

Janek first started playing baseball at a very young age and generated buzz during his time at Sam Houston State University from 2022 to 2024. During his college career, he was a standout catcher. He was also awarded the Buster Posey Award in 2024 during his final college season. Collecting accolades, he was named the WAC Tournament's Most Outstanding Player in 2023.

Following his college career, he was selected by the Houston Astros as the 28th overall in the 2024 Major League Baseball draft, and Janek had a good first season in the minors. While his stats are good, they aren't quite good enough to bring him up to the majors just yet, but like every good prospect, he shows great potential, according to MILB.

Walker Janek – 2025 MiLB Season, per:

AB: 358, R: 58, H: 94, HR: 12, RBI: 46, SB: 30, AVG: .263, OBP: .333, OPS: .766

Walker Janek – MiLB Career, per MILB:

AB: 455, R: 68, H: 111, HR: 13, RBI: 57, SB: 30, AVG: .244, OBP: .309, OPS: .711

While his 2025 stats are a good start for this minor league catcher's career, he doesn't seem ready yet to enter the major leagues. However, he does show great potential, and Janek is someone to keep an eye on for the future.
