After five games in a row with no home runs, the cold streak is finally over for Yordan Alvarez.

Alvarez hit his 14th home run last night against the Mariners at Daikin Park. Earlier in the season, he held the top spot on the home run leaderboard but has since slipped and he has some ground to make up, sitting behind Kyle Schwarber with 18, Aaron Judge with 16 and Byron Buxton and Munetaka Murakami both sitting at 15.

If Alvarez gets on a hot streak again he should have no problem making his way back to the top. He just needs to do what he always does and last night was a reminder of that. He has been the bright light in a rough season for the Astros and the driving force of the offense.

The stats don’t lie. Here is a look at his 2026 season so far.

2026 Regular Season: AVG: .321, HR: 14, RBI: 30, SB: 1, OPS: 1.071, per MLB.

While Alvarez may still be crushing it the Astros as a whole are not. They are still racking up losses and can’t seem to use the momentum from a solid game and carry it into a winning streak.

If something doesn’t change the whole season is going to get away from them just like these games and before you know it they will be watching the playoffs from home again.

It’s not a matter of talent. They have the talent. Alvarez keeps launching at the plate and they have a good balance of young talent and more established veterans. They need consistency. Consistent success and momentum.
