The Houston Astros did lose to the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night by a score of 11-7, but there was one major bright spot as Jose Altuve officially notched his name in MLB and franchise history.

On Wednesday night, Altuve made his 2,500th career hit, which is an incredible milestone as he became the 102nd player in American League/National League history to do so.

The hit came in the top of the third inning as Altuve doubled and helped the Astros to have a four-run inning. While Houston was not able to pick up a win, this was an incredible feat for Altuve.

What is even more impressive than Altuve getting to 2,500 hits is the fact that only 31 players in MLB history have done it faster than Altuve, as he accomplished it in his 2,095th career game.

In terms of the active players, Altuve joins Los Angeles Dodgers batter Freddie Freeman as one of only two players currently playing in the MLB to join the 2,500-hit club. Freeman also made his 2,500th hit earlier this season which is just incredible for the MLB to have two players complete this feat in the same season.

Now, as far as Astros history, Altuve is now the second player to reach 2,500 hits as he joins Hall of Famer Craig Biggio.

There is no question that Altuve's accomplishment is impressive, but Biggio actually reached 3,000 hits in his career with a total of 3,060 hits, which is definitely a major reason why he is in the Hall of Fame.

After such an impressive accomplishment, Altuve should enjoy it, and not focus on trying to surpass Biggio, but instead do his best to help the Astros clinch the AL West and attempt to make a deep postseason run.

Now, getting back to Altuve's accomplishment, this adds to what has already been a very successful career. So far in his MLB career, Altuve has won the AL MVP in 2017, won the ALCS MVP in 2019, been selected as a nine-time All-Star, is a seven-time Silver Slugger, won the Golden Glove in 2015, is a two-time World Series champion, and has tallied 2,500 hits in his career, with more to come.

Clearly, Altuve has had a very impressive career, and because he is 36 years old, it is worth wondering how many more years Altuve will play.

For the season, Altuve has been playing pretty well as he has had 459 at-bats and in those opportunities he has totaled 65 runs, 112 hits, 15 home runs, 44 RBIs, and a batting average of .244.

Overall, Altuve has been a bright spot for the Astros and actually had a very impressive month of August, where he led Houston in hits with 28 and was second in batting average with a .308 (Would rank first among players with at least 10 at-bats).

So with Altuve becoming a part of the 2,500 hit club and showing he can still make a key impact from the plate, it seems that he is in a solid position to be able to not only contribute for the Astros down the stretch of the regular season, but also possibly make a major impact to help Houston go on a deep playoff run.
